GENERAL GUIDELINES

  1. Value Added Course are specialized training programs designed to complement the academic curriculum and enhance a student’s skill set, making them more industry-ready and competitive in the job market. It is important for higher education institutions to supplement the curriculum to make students better prepared to meet industry demands as well as develop their own interests and aptitudes. These courses focus on practical, hands-on learning and are tailored to current industry trends and technological advancements.ObjectivesVAC are meant for providing additional learner-centric, graded, skill oriented training, the primary objective is to improve employability of students. The specific objectives of the VAC are:
    • To improve employability skills of the students
    • To bridge the skill gap and make the students industry ready
    • To provide an opportunity to develop inter-disciplinary skills
    • To inspire innovative thinking and creative problem-solving abilities, especially entrepreneurial or research-based courses
    • To increase confidence and professional competence

    Period

    All the UG students should complete 2 value added courses and PG students 1 value added course during their period of study. The courses must be conducted between 3rd and 5th semesters for UG students/ 2nd and 3rd semester for PG studentsto enroll in the domain specific skill advanced courses.

    Course duration

    The duration of value added course should not be less than 30 hours/ 6days (5 hrs/ day) and classes should not be conducted in regular working days.

    Course approval

    Before identifying the course, the feedback from the employers, alumni and industry people will be analyzed and considered to select and design an appropriate course by identifying the gaps. According to the content and target group, the appropriate pedagogical methods shall be adopted in the curriculum. The designed curriculum should be placed to the Value Added Course Scrutiny Committee for vetting and after final approval.

    Course approval process

    The finalized course content is submitted to the NGI management for approval. Once approved, finalized and submitted to Board of Studies and approved by the Academic Council. Further, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) can be signed with the specific industry to conduct the course. The course offered should not be the same as any course listed in the curriculum of the respective program/ or any other program offered in Departments. A unique course code is to be given for each course.

    Conduct of Value Added Course

    The conduct of Value Added Courses is designed to provide students with enriched learning experiences that go beyond the standard academic curriculum. These courses aim to impart practical, industry-relevant skills in a flexible and student-centric manner with a combination of 80% skill based and 20% theory in the syllabus.

    Outcome through the Course

    Value Added Course are designed to enrich students’ academic learning and equip them in the following aspects,

    • Mini projects
    • Training to participate in hackathon/ ideathon
    • Institutional training/ In-plant training
    • Internship
    • Skill enhancement support/ entrepreneurial skills
    • Placement

     

    Consultancy/ Project

                On successful completion of the value added course, the industry need to offer project or consultancy work for betterment of the students.

     

GUIDELINES FOR CONDUCTING VALUE ADDED COURSE

Following are the guidelines for Heads or Course coordinator for conducting value added course,

  1. Value Added Course identified by departments need to be conducted with prior approval of Principal and Management.
  2. Transport and accommodation for the industry resource person need to be arranged by their own.
  3. In case of accommodation or food is required for them, prior permission is needed and they need to pay according to the norms of Management by their own.
  4. Slot for conducting the courses need to prepared as per norms and faculty need to attend the courses along with their students.
  5. As per hours mentioned in MoU, it need to be conducted.
  6. Course coordinator or HoD is instructed to follow up the outcomes as defined in the MoU.
  7. Value added course should have clear syllabus and course coordinator need to verify whether all the course modules were completed as per schedule.
  8. Attendance should be submitted on daily basis to Principal during the conduct of course.
  9. Assessments are conducted at the end of the course, final report with feedback need to be submitted in IQAC format within 3 days after completion of the course.
  10. In Course certificate, total number of hours (duration), date and grade should be mentioned.
  11. Within 7 days, account submission along with necessary documents should reach the Management.
