Examination System

Proforma Attendance Requirement
I Candidates who have earned 75% attendance and above in the current semester are eligible to write the End Semester Examination.
II Candidates who have earned 65% to 74% attendance in the current semester are eligible for Condonation and may write the End Semester Examination.

Note: Candidates must submit the prescribed Application for Condonation.
III Candidates who have earned 50% to 64% attendance are not eligible for condonation and cannot appear for the current semester examinations.

  • If this is the first occurrence of attendance shortage (50%–64%), they may continue their studies in the next semester.
  • Otherwise, they shall discontinue the programme and rejoin the same semester in the following academic year with Bharathiar University approval.
  • They are eligible to appear for arrear examinations, if any.
IV Candidates with 49% attendance and below shall discontinue the programme and rejoin the same semester in the next academic year with Bharathiar University approval.

  • Not eligible for condonation.
  • Cannot write the current semester examinations.
  • Eligible to appear for arrear examinations only.
V Candidates who earned 50% to 64% attendance in the previous semester and have subsequently earned a combined attendance of 75% and above are eligible to write examinations for both the previous and current semester subjects.
VI Candidates who earned 50% to 64% attendance in the previous semester and have subsequently earned a combined attendance between 65% and 74% are eligible for condonation by the Principal.

Note: Candidates must submit the prescribed Application for Condonation.
VII Candidates who earned 50% to 64% attendance in the previous semester but have obtained a combined attendance of 64% and below have failed to compensate for the shortage.

  • They shall discontinue the programme.
  • They must rejoin the previous semester in the next academic year.
  • They may appear only for arrear examinations.
  • They are not eligible to write either the previous or current semester examinations.
VIII Candidates eligible under Proforma I, II, V and VI who have not paid the examination fee and have not registered for the current semester regular subjects shall not be permitted to appear for the current semester examinations.

Examination Pattern

The examination for each Theory and
Practical course consists of the following two components:

  • Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA):
    Theory – 25% marks and Practical –
    40% marks.
  • End Semester Examination (ESE):
    Conducted for the entire syllabus with Theory carrying
    75% marks and Practical carrying
    60% marks.
The Controller of Examinations (CoE) conducts all
End Semester Examinations and issues mark statements with the required
security features. Bharathiar University awards the final degree.
Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) is conducted by the respective
Course Teachers in accordance with the regulations.

CIA Tests and Question Paper Pattern

Three Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) tests shall be conducted at regular intervals during each semester.

  • CIA – I & II:
    Conducted as a 2-hour written examination for a maximum of
    50 marks each. Each CIA covers two units.
  • CIA – III:
    Conducted as a 3-hour Model Examination following the
    End Semester Examination (ESE) pattern.

Passing Minimum

UG Programmes

A candidate who secures not less than 40% marks in the
End Semester Examination (ESE) and
not less than 40% marks in the aggregate of the
External Examination and
Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) in any
Theory or Practical course under
Part I, II, III or IV shall be declared to have
passed the examination in that subject.

PG Programmes

A candidate who secures not less than 50% marks in the
End Semester Examination (ESE) and
not less than 50% marks in the aggregate of the
External Examination and
Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) in any
Theory or Practical course shall be
declared to have passed the examination in that subject.
