The Department of Biotechnology is a flourishing department established in 2004 to impart quality education in the field of Biosciences. It aims to train young students to confidently navigate the competitive modern world. The curriculum is designed to address technical challenges students will face while competing globally for various opportunities.

We offer Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral Programs in various fields, including Biochemistry, Enzymology, Nanotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Immunology, and Bioprocess Engineering. The Department has highly experienced faculty with expertise in diverse disciplines of Modern Biotechnology. We also collaborate with start-up companies to promote high-quality research and enhance industry-academia interaction. The department has initiated an association called the Bio Elixer, an active student association that organizes conferences, workshops, and symposiums at national and international levels. The club fosters innovation, hands-on training, and research-based learning experiences. Industrial visits are regularly arranged to provide real-world exposure, while students benefit from projects and summer training programs offered by leading companies, preparing them for their careers in academia and industry.

Value-Added Courses

The department offers highly interactive and hands-on value-added courses in cutting-edge areas of biotechnology, ensuring students gain practical exposure and industry-relevant skills. Some of the specialized courses include:

  • DNA Fingerprinting, conducted in collaboration with Genolite Research, providing expertise in forensic and molecular biology techniques.
  • Drug Design and Development, offered by Biozone Research Technologies, Chennai, focusing on computational and experimental approaches to drug discovery.
  • Stem Cell & Gene Therapy, delivered in partnership with Biozone Research Technologies, Chennai, exploring regenerative medicine and advanced genetic technologies.

Research and Innovation

The department is a recognized hub for cutting-edge research and innovative solutions in biotechnology. Faculty and research scholars actively contribute to high-impact research areas such as Molecular Diagnostics, Drug Discovery, Microbial Technology, Bioinformatics, and Environmental Biotechnology.

  • The department has successfully filed multiple patents, with several granted for novel innovations in biotechnology.

  • Industrial Training on Stem Cell and Gene Therapy
  • DNA Fingerprinting Workshop at Genolite Research and Development Laboratory Pvt. Ltd.
  • Research-Based Training at Biozone Research Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
  • Internships & Hands-on Training in Molecular Biology & Plant Tissue Culture

Production Units

  • The Department running a continuous manufacturing unit as follows in the area including Apiculture – Rearing of honey bees, Natural Lip Balm Production and Mushroom Production by Organic Method.
