 VISION

To contribute competent to the social work professional to apply scientific methods for the betterment of the human beings in all stages of life.

MISSION

To provide an ideal learning environment for students and emerge as a greater personalities of social work and apply the innovative, interdisciplinary approaches in educating social work practitioners and scholars.

The Department of Social Work was started in the year 2003 with a vision to create a revolution among young generation and to make them to shine as a leader in different fields. Master of Social Work (MSW) is a two year program offering three different specialization like Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Human Resource Management and Community Development. The department is also offering Research Program like M. Phil and PhD in social work. Apart from curriculum the department is enriching the students with field visits, field placements, Block Placements and Placements for their better future. The department has signed MoU’s with various organization belongs to social work for creating more job opportunities to the students. The department also offering Add-on Courses related to social Work to make the students to equip them and shine in various fields.

Highlights

  • As a unique feature of the Department, students have the opportunity to participate In four fieldwork and two internships.
  • Students are prepared for employment through Guest Lectures, Alumni Mentoring, and hands-on experience in SPSS Training to broaden their research knowledge.
  • Specialized placement training is provided, including resume preparation, aptitude test preparation, interview preparation, and grooming.
  • Faculty and student membership in professional organizations (CPC& NAPSWI) as well as student participation. The periodic meetings of these bodies, led by a faculty coordinator, help to build a professional network for students preparing to enter the corporate world.
  • The School of liberal arts, Department of Social Work has signed MoUs with 28 Field Work agencies.
  • The School of liberal arts, Department of Social Work has started Nehru Civic Charitable trust in the year 2021 for the social welfare and empowerment of Transgender.
  • Industry and Academic Collaboration Initiative.
  • Initiatives taken for Model Village in Rottigondanur, TN Playam Panchayat.
  • School Consultancy for Corporation school children in association with ANT Foundation in Karkai Nandrae Project where the faculties and students were working as volunteers
  • Placements through campus interview in Sakshi NGO
  • Paid Internship through field work agencies

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRUST:

  • To create awareness on Social issues and its prevention
  • To conduct Mental Health Awareness Programme for villagers
  • To create awareness about the life killing deceases, (like Covid-19 Dengue, HIV, Swine Flu, Birds Flu) contingence deceases and also to get rid of these to conduct hospitals and impart Medical advices.
  • To create awareness among the Society about the Law and Human rights.
  • To conduct intervention programme on social problems such as alcoholism, drug addiction, child abuse, women harassment, child labor.
  • To provide counseling for the prisoners
  • To promote Research and Development activities
  • To bring the awareness of government plans and the same to reach the low level people without any partiality.
  • To organize counseling and guidance for the Re-union of broken families.
  • To create awareness regarding the transplantation of Human organs Like Eyes, Kidney, Liver and Heart

Specific Objectives:

  • To conduct health awareness programme for transgender with collaboration of the NGOs in Coimbatore.
  • To provide training for transgender like tailoring, hand craft making and computer training with support of other departments in our college.
  • To provide employment opportunities for transgender based on their qualification.
  • To provide counseling services for transgender based on their problems.

Events Conducted

  • One week skill development program conducted for 7 Transgender and training given in the area of tailoring and provided 7 tailoring machines to the transgender.
  • Eye camp conducted at kumutipathy village in collaboration with Eye Foundation, Coimbatore.
