About the Event
The Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, under the School of Investigative Science and Technology, organized a Campus Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Mitigation Planning Exercise as part of its initiatives supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The activity was designed to provide students with practical exposure to identifying potential hazards within the campus, assessing associated risks, and developing appropriate mitigation measures. Students actively participated in observing the surroundings, identifying possible safety and environmental hazards, assessing their potential impact, and discussing suitable preventive and corrective measures. The exercise emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness, risk reduction, safety awareness, and sustainable campus management.
Outcome
The activity enhanced participants’ awareness and practical understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation planning. It enabled students to develop skills in recognizing potential risks, evaluating their possible impacts, and suggesting appropriate preventive and corrective measures. The exercise also strengthened their problem-solving, critical-thinking, teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills, while promoting a culture of safety and preparedness. Furthermore, the activity encouraged students to actively contribute towards creating a safer, more resilient, and sustainable campus environment in alignment with relevant Sustainable Development Goals.
